Kehillah’s New “Government Team” at the Model United Nation Conference with over 1,000 West Coast Delegates
Kehillah’s new “Government Team” sent 17 students to compete at the Santa Clara Valley Model United Nation Conference with over 1,000 delegates across schools on the west coast. Kehillah represented the nation of Cuba on issues varying from sustainable development to disputes over the South China Sea. In their preparations to embody Cuba, over lunches and Sunday meetups, the students wrote policy memos, practiced parliamentary procedure, and made Kosher vegetarian Cuban sandwiches and “Coppelia-style” Havana ice cream. Sawyer Anderson and Sam Fisher who represented Cuba on the World Bank won Kehillah’s first Model UN award, coming in third place in their committee. Government Team is a new school club that seeks out experiential civic experiences, advised by teachers Christopher Chiang and Ellen Dooley.
