Talk to a Community Member

Bodhi Gemello, Senior, Class of 2025

11-Gemello-Bodhi.jpg

In my first year at Kehillah, I quickly realized it was more than a school, but also a community filled with students and faculty who are incredibly welcoming and who want to see me grow as a learner and as a person. The skills and characteristics I have developed at Kehillah, such as perseverance and diligence, have helped me in the classroom but also outside of school.

For example, I currently work part-time at Sports House as a party coach and host for kids' birthday parties. Additionally, I am on the leadership board and volunteer at Friendship Circle, and I just finished being a counselor-in-training (CIT) at a Jewish Sleepaway camp based in Los Angeles. I am also entering my fourth year of varsity basketball and second year as team captain.

There are so many opportunities supported by various aspects of Kehillah that enhance my personal and academic growth and I am so grateful that I am a member of the amazing Kehillah community.

Devanshi Chand, Senior, Class of 2025

11-Chand-Devanshi.jpg

I’m Devanshi Chand and I am entering my senior year at Kehillah! Throughout my journey, I’ve come to appreciate the opportunities students get to interact with classmates from other grades. I love how everyone knows each other and that we have the chance to talk to new people practically every day.

My favorite class at Kehillah has probably been AP US History because I enjoy learning about the history of the United States. Although the class was challenging, the fact that many projects and assignments were fun and interactive, rather than merely lectures and taking notes, definitely motivated me.

I’ve played volleyball at Kehillah for the past two years, and although our team has had its ups and downs, the community the team has built makes the experience 10 times more enjoyable. We are all friends on the volleyball team and we love each other. Everyone is willing to help out and many players train ones who have less experience.

A significant project I enjoyed working on was the Period 6 Parody song that Raya Farber and I worked on as part of the 6th unit of the APUSH book. It was really fun to make, especially because we got to make a music video and dance, and it was a really good way to memorize a lot of important details within that period.

Jenna Mu, Sophomore, Class of 2027

9-Mu-Jenna.jpg

Hey future Rams! My name is Jenna, and I’m currently a sophomore in the class of 2027 at Kehillah. I am truly proud of this school and the unwavering support of everyone in the community. I have heard countless times when a fellow student says, “This can only happen at Kehillah,” when referring to a community-wide event where people are unapologetically themselves and are applauded for it.

In addition to Kehillah’s supportive community, the school has a wealth of opportunities for rigorous academics. Despite not considering myself a “history person” before my freshman year, world history has become one of my favorite subjects. Mr. Nybakken has taught me how to thoroughly enjoy history through his great sense of humor and ability to make any topic engaging.

Finally, my learning experiences at Kehillah don’t just stop at 3 p.m.; they extend beyond the classroom with extracurriculars such as robotics and the occasional math competition. I am so excited to meet you, whether it’s on campus, via email, or on social media. I hope you too can feel the love that radiates from the place I am so lucky to call my school.

Adam Talcott, Father of Stella, Class of 2027

Adam, along with his wife and two children, call Los Altos home. His daughter, Stella, is a proud 10th grader in Kehillah’s Class of 2027 who graduated from Keys School in Palo Alto. Adam and his family were drawn to Kehillah because it is a unique place in the Bay Area where students can pursue their passions and challenge themselves academically in a supportive environment that blends academic excellence, small class sizes, diverse extracurricular activities, and a strong focus on student growth and mental health.

Caryn Wasserstein, Mother of Max, Class of 2025

Caryn Wasserstein is the KPA Chair for the 2024-25 school year. As a mom of a current senior, and last year's KPA Vice Chair, she is excited to lead our parent community as we further embrace Kehillah "community" for our parents and guardians. Her son, Max, a student from Hillview Middle School, chose Kehillah for the warmth and care he felt in the application process, the small classes, and the personal attention he saw at the school.

At Kehillah, you will find a diversity of backgrounds in staff and teachers, the students and families, but everyone is uniquely linked together in a community of compassion, learning, and growth that you will embrace, and will embrace you. Welcome!

Elana Manson, Mother of Jessie, Class of 2026

We have two children who attended Kehillah–Ryan, a recent graduate (Class of 2023) who is currently in college at Tufts University, and Jessie, a current junior (Class of 2026) who graduated from Girls' Middle School. Both kids chose to enroll at Kehillah because of its strong academics (and college acceptances) within a smaller, more nurturing environment, where they could learn to self-advocate and push themselves beyond their comfort zones. I look forward to connecting with prospective families.

Roxanne Cohen, Mother of Ian, Class of 2025

Roxanne_Cohen.png

Roxanne loves being part of the Kehillah community, and is a mom to a student in the class of 2025 who started at Kehillah as a freshman. Roxanne chose Kehillah for her son, Ian, because of the small class sizes and personal attention that students receive. Ian graduated form Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School after attending La Entrada Middle School until sixth grade. Roxanne deeply understands the differences between independent and public schools in the Bay Area.

Roxanne is a Southern California native, and after spending four years in Boston during college, she was excited to return to sunny California. Along with her husband, she relocated to the peninsula 19 years ago and has raised three kids in the area. In her free time, you can find her skiing, hiking, enjoying time outside, and trying to keep up with her teenagers.

Tom Stuart, Father of Graham, Class of 2025

Our son, Graham, joined Kehillah from the Sterne School in ninth grade. He chose Kehillah because it offered a rare combination of challenging academics in a supportive environment. Because Graham has had such a great experience, I'm eager to help families considering Kehillah understand the school better in order for them to assess their fit.

Richard Brownstone, Dean of Academics

Richard Brownstone is our Dean of Academics. A New Yorker with a varied background in ballet, database design, and more, he's thrilled to be at Kehillah working with students in English in addition to his administrative responsibilities. He is also a published young adult fiction author who plays piano and enjoys watching his daughter's volleyball games. A Renaissance man indeed!

Rabbi Dennis Eisner, Dean of Jewish Life & Philanthropy

He is excited to answer any questions you may have about Kehillah in general or Jewish life specifically.

She also enjoys hot yoga, has a cat at home named Yuumi, and is a passionate vegan. At school, Ms. Chun enjoys working with students in both the introductory and advanced Chemistry classes in addition to empowering her teaching assistants to support students. She looks forward to interacting with prospective students and parents.

Book a Shadow Visit

We cordially invite you to visit Kehillah for a half day to see what it's like on a daily basis. At Kehillah, we believe deeply in helping students pursue their own pathways, both academically and extracurricularly. With that in mind, you can choose a half day experience in a particular pathway, whether it's the humanities, STEM, or the arts. We strive to ensure that all students at Kehillah feel like they belong which is why we offer perhaps the most unique shadow visit experience in the Bay Area.
