The Kehillah Athletic Program is a natural extension of the school’s curriculum, which provides activities for the growth and development of our students, both physically and mentally. Participating in sports can play a significant role in preparing our students for becoming productive, contributing citizens of our community and society. While the program is competitive and focused, it is not victory-centric. The emphasis, instead, is on sportsmanship and the pursuit of team goals. We support the CIF philosophy of Victory with Honor and work to develop each student’s self-discipline, sportsmanship, and intrinsic motivation for personal growth.
Kehillah plays league games in the Private School Athletic League (PSAL), which comprises many small schools from San Francisco to San Jose. Practices and games are played Monday through Thursday, with occasional Sunday activities.
We think every student could benefit from the leadership skills, self-discipline, physical achievement, and teamwork they will experience by participating in an organized sport. Therefore, Kehillah maintains a no-cut policy for all sports. Time, facilities, equipment, athletic ability, and other factors limit the most effective team size for any particular sport. When numbers and facilities permit, we divide the students into Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. The coaches determine how the teams are divided; split between JV and Varsity is not based on age or grade level.
