Kehillah Theater Department takes a look Behind the Curtain
Kehillah Meets the Stars of Theatre
In a warm and lively conversation on Sunday, February 7, three professional actors and directors spoke to the Kehillah community about the joys and challenges of their life’s work: Artemis Preeshl, Hassan Al Rawas, and Erin Ramirez. One came to the profession through the avenue of being a dancer and now choreographs and directs, one began as an actor and discovered his real talent and passion was for directing, and one found herself auditioning in New York for years while doing smaller shows, but finally landed a part in the National Tour company of Les Miserables.
The panel was moderated by Kehillah theatre students Laila Kleinberg and Roni Gal-Oz, who asked insightfully about the process of auditioning, how and when the three realized that theatre was their dream, and how they managed the complex systems of becoming an Equity actor. The pros and cons of touring or living in a town that supports all year theatre enough to make a living there gave our community an inside look at a fascinating, (if not always lucrative!) and very rewarding career. “It was so insightful hearing about the varying experiences of the panelists as they journeyed throughout the industry. We learned a lot about the ins and outs of regional, broadway, and international theatre,” says Roni Gal-Oz, co-Producing Student Director. To watch the full recording, please enjoy the video below.
Join us on Sunday, February 7th, at 11:00am for a panel with three theatre industry professionals sharing their experiences in the professional theatre world. We will be discussing their varied career paths, both on stage and behind the scenes. This event is open to all, including family, friends, and community members. We hope to see you there!
