Kinnus (All-School Retreat)
August 20 - August 21
Our school year opens with Kinnus, an all-school gathering on the very first day of school. Kinnus sets the tone for the year and we know that with the guidance of our story and four commitments we will have an exciting start! At Kinnus, we will present school traditions, create self-portraits, play games, stride into collective discovery, perform our varied talents, give voice to our stories, compete, eat, laugh, and play. Students will meet teachers, connect with peers in different grades, and form lasting bonds with their classmates in this fun-filled start of school.
On Friday, we’ll give back to our community with service learning opportunities at food banks, homeless shelters, warehouses, parks, and more throughout Bay Area.
In order to participate, we must have completed waivers (https://form.jotform.com/Kehillah/kinnus-2018) submitted online by Friday, August 10th.
For the service-learning projects, you will pick your top three choices on the Kehillah waiver. During the week of August 13th, you will get an email with an additional waiver for the service learning project your child will be participating in. We must have the service learning waivers signed and returned by Wednesday, August 22nd.
What to bring
On Monday and Tuesday—just bring yourselves. We’ll provide all materials, snacks, drinks, and lunch. If you’d like, you’re welcome to bring musical instruments, Frisbees, etc to play during free time.
Seniors, for your overnight, you need to bring pajamas, warm layers, flashlight, hat/sunglasses, sunscreen, toiletries, and medication in a Ziploc bag with your name on it.
We will start at Kehillah on Monday morning with breakfast and an opening assembly before walking to Mitchell Park Community Center together. After our games and celebrations, pick up will be at Mitchell Park.
Monday night, our seniors will have an overnight at Via West Campus to share stories of their time at Kehillah and get excited for their final year with free time, smores, and late-night bonfires.
Tuesday, we will all meet at Mitchell Park to continue Kinnus with mixed-grade programming. After lunch and games led by Student Government, we’ll walk back to Kehillah for an all-school talent show and a sweet send-off before the first days of classes on Wednesday and Thursday.
