Student leadership on the Jewish Life Committee changes from year to year, so many students receive an opportunity to put their own stamp on Kehillah’s religious identity. The Committee is a unique way for 9th graders to take on leadership, prepare for future roles in StuGov (student government), gain Jewish knowledge, and develop event planning skills. Below you can see the details of the 2nd Annual Challah Bake that JLC created.

Kehillah’s second Virtual Challah Bake!

In 2020, Kehillah’s JLC hosted two virtual Challah bakes! These Erev Shabbat gatherings provided an opportunity for students to braid dough, connect after a long week of virtual school, share family traditions, and bring in Shabbat as a community.

The second Challah bake, themed Challah and HaKarat HaTov (“Challah and Recognizing the Good”), took place the week before Thanksgiving. Students reflected on the ups and downs of a virtual first quarter, caught up before the break, and took a much needed opportunity to decompress before Shabbat began.

We eagerly await the days we can transition back to KabShab Challah Days and, eventually, in-person Challah baking. Until then, virtual Challah bakes offer a wonderful avenue for Jewish connection during virtual school.
