2019 Summer Opportunities Fair – Over 25 Organizations Attend Offering Internships, Jobs, Experiences, and More
Over 25 organizations attended Kehillah’s annual Summer in January fair on Wednesday. Students hopped from table to table learning about all of the opportunities available to them including jobs, volunteer work, academic and travel programs, internships, and more! - For over 30 years, Oxbridge Academic Programs has organized summer programs around the world for students between the ages of 13 and 18 with a focus on intellectual enrichment and cultural immersion.
- The City of Palo Alto’s Recreation division offers seasonal and year-round employment opportunities including positions for summer camp counselors and middle school athletic coaches
- For nearly 100 years, BBYO has provided exceptional identity enrichment and leadership development experiences for hundreds of thousands of Jewish teens. BBYO brings teens together so they form powerful, authentic relationships with each other and with inspiring adult role models. BBYO does this by creating compelling Jewish environments and experiences where teens feel pride in who they are, in control of their own destiny, and part of a larger global, Jewish community. - Camp Tawonga offers exciting and engaging opportunities for teens interested in developing their leadership skills, who want to give back to the community and work with kids. Our Teen Leadership Institute, focusing on personal leadership development, service projects and outdoor experiences, is for rising 11th graders. Our Counselor-In-Training program, for rising 12th graders, focuses on learning how to become a Camp counselor, incorporating direct work with kids at Camp. Both programs are application based.
- JCC Maccabi Sports Camp is a Jewish overnight sports camp in the San Francisco Bay Area offering programs in soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball, lacrosse, flag football, dance, and tennis for campers entering grades 3 – 11. Community, culture, and character are at the heart of a unique Jewish camp experience that combines high-level specialized sports instruction with the fun, friendship, and community of a Jewish overnight camp. Camp staff of experienced coaches, from the high school and collegiate level, provide individual instruction to young athletes seeking to advance their skills in a supportive and relationship-driven Jewish community.
- Where There Be Dragons offers authentic cultural immersion through Summer Abroad, Gap Year, and College Study Abroad programs. Small student groups travel to remote communities with the best educators in the industry to ensure personalized mentorship and meaningful community engagement. Our goal is to help participants develop the cross-cultural competencies to be active participants in the world.
- The Bay Area Friendship Circle pairs trained high school students to children and teens with special needs for a full range of social, educational and recreational activities.
- Steve & Kate’s Camp is a progressive, self-directed day camp program that focuses on creative exploration in arts & tech. We’re already currently hiring for our team of summer staff at Steve & Kate’s Palo Alto location. There are various roles available, ranging from leading activities for campers in one of our main studios (in subjects like Coding, Film, Music, Fashion, and Breadmaking) or sports areas, to managing our at-camp office. Specific previous experience is not required; we’re mostly looking for responsible, excited, capable folks who are willing to learn and discover alongside fellow staff and kids alike. The one requirement, however, is that you do have to have graduated HS upon the start of work. This means we’re mostly applicable for those students graduating in Spring 2019.
- Teens this summer will be able to experience so many different activities through the Peninsula JCC and Camp Keff! Our teens in grades 7-9 will be going on adventures all over the Bay Area and all over California. We have a Tahoe trip and a Southern California trip where our teens will stay in a big house with their peers each night and participate in awesome activities each day. Two new programs for teens in grades 7-9 are our Makers camp (wood/metal work and more) and an Arduino Robotics camp. For our teens in grades 10-12 we have a Counselor in Training program. These teens will get to participate in leadership development workshops and get to “intern” all summer as Counselors in Training! They will be eligible for hire after the have been a CIT one summer and are entering 12th grade.

- Jewish Student Union provides high school students with meaningful and engaging Jewish programs and opportunities. Our summer programs range from Israel touring trips, Poland/Israel, Tikkun Olam, Israel Advocacy and Internships in Israel.
- Jewish Community Federation supports community members and organizations through a variety of initiatives and opportunities. Specifically, I will be able to share information about our Israel Within Reach scholarships and Information Hub (to be launched this Spring).

Ramah Galim/Camp Ramah in Northern California is Jewish Overnight Specialty Camp located on the beautiful beaches of Monterey Bay. Our programming focuses on three core specialty areas: ocean exploration, performing arts, & outdoor adventure. Join our staff and be part of an amazing team and community of emerging leaders! Summer opportunities include counselors, outdoor specialists, lifeguards, surf instructors, rock-climbers, dancers, artists, logistics and so much more.
- Every summer, HandsOn Bay Area hosts an award-winning, two-week summer youth program, in which 15-20 high school youth go through an innovative service-learning curriculum while also engaging in meaningful volunteer projects along the way. This program focuses on developing leadership, project planning, and management skills through fun, hands-on activities. Students earn 55 volunteer hours for college, as well as the potential to earn the President’s Volunteer Service Award at the bronze level!

- The Tikvah Institute for High School Students is a two-week immersive summer institute for high school students hosted at Yale University. The mission of the program is to immerse students in the foundational texts and great questions of Jewish and Western civilization, to explore the history and future of modern Israel, and to prepare them to be civically engaged, intellectually curious Jewish citizens and leaders.
- Reading Partners offers one-on-one tutoring for Kindergarten through fourth graders at under-resourced schools who are reading 1 month to 2.5 years below grade level. Choose between our 15 reading center sites! Reading Partners delivers a highly effective and evidence-based program that has helped thousands of children master the fundamental reading skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. - The Oxbow School is a semester program in Napa, California focusing on studio artmaking and interdisciplinary humanities. This program provides juniors, seniors, and gap-year students the opportunity for an intensive art experience and thought-provoking academic instruction.

- The National Institute for Mentoring Business Leaders & Entrepreneurs (NIMBLE) offers a fun, hands-on week-long camp for engaged learners aged 15-18. It is from 9 am to 3 pm at Silicon Valley Community Foundation in Mountain View, CA and takes students from innovation inception to plan, culminating in a pitch competition. With guidance, students will develop concepts that improve their school, community or the world at large – or develop an idea for a new product or service. The program also includes skill-building in leadership, negotiations and other life skills.This past summer, the program enjoyed a mix of participants from diverse backgrounds, including nearly 45% female. Many from word-of-mouth, students came from: Gunn High School, Hillsdale High School, Homestead High School, Los Altos High School, Menlo School, Nueva School, Mountain View Los Altos High School
- Breakthrough Silicon Valley is an education non-profit, serving low-income, first-generation college-bound youth in their six year path to a four-year university. Breakthrough is looking for talented, accomplished high school students and undergraduates to join our classrooms this summer as teachers to our middle school students in our summer program. This nationally recognized internship is called our Summer Teaching Fellowship. We seek students from all academic backgrounds – both those planning careers in education and those who are considering it for the first time. Breakthrough teaching fellows have a deep commitment to social justice and passion for working with our inspiring students. Our teaching fellows must be committed to personal growth and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. As a Breakthrough Silicon Valley teaching fellow, you’ll join a supportive community where you’ll receive extensive training, continuous support, and the opportunity to lead a classroom.
