Students Participate in Local Model United Nations Competition – 2 Competition Winners From Kehillah!
This past weekend, a group of eight Kehillah students participated in a local Model UN competition at Gunn High School. Two winners from the competition were from Kehillah! Julia Dubovoy (class of 2021) and Sam Fisher (class of 2020) won honorable mentions for their participation. Dubovoy represented John Silkin as part of the British House of Commons specialized committee, and Fisher represented Mali as part of the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee. Model UN competitions strive to educate talented and motivated students about issues facing our world today. Topics researched and debated by our students this weekend included the opioid epidemic, child marriage, fracking, and the Syrian civil war, among others. Students represent nations, politicians, and even notable CIA agents in a simulation of the United Nations and various specialized and historical committees. In the process, the students develop research skills, foster critical thinking, practice public speaking, and build friendships (and diplomacy!) with students from schools near and far. Congratulations to all who participated in such a rewarding experience!
