NASA Ames Astronomer Guest Speaker
Last week, Brian Day, an astronomer from NASA Ames as a guest speaker in Ms. Vicenty’s Astronomy class. He introduced the students to the online portals called TREKS that NASA created, which will be used by our students in their comparative planetology unit. He talked to the students about Mercury, the Moon, Mars, and the asteroids Ceres and Vesta, and showed them regions on the planets and asteroids using the TREKS. He told the students amazing facts about these celestial objects and showed them lunar rock samples and meteorite samples. The students received a special gift, a sample from the Campo del Cielo (field of heaven) meteorite. A nickel-iron meteorite that fell in northern Argentina. These are fragments of the dense, heavy core of a world that shattered into tiny pieces in a collision long ago and a part of it ended up on Earth.
Thank you for visiting, Brian Day!
