Most Popular Hashtag at Kehillah This Year – #Upgrade
“Are you kidding me?”
“OMG!”
“Where am I?”
All phrases that could be heard in the hallways of Kehillah the first weeks of the 2018-19 school year. This past summer, while all of the students were off on break, the secret upgrade crew was redesigning Kehillah’s common spaces. Students now enter their school through a bright and beautiful cerulean arch. Once in the doors, the new floors gleam, the new wall colors awe, and the upgraded decor drops jaws. These upgrades are part of a new and ongoing project that has been coined KIDP, the Kehillah Interior Design Project. The motivation behind KIDP is to redesign common spaces allowing optimal use of space while considering different types of learners, creativity, and exploration. By redesigning the look and functionality of our common areas, we invite current students to find and help define, spaces where they feel most comfortable and can learn best. Each space has some consistency but could be treated uniquely, which appeals to different parts of our student body. Future stages will include some student/faculty involvement. In essence, KIDP optimizes the experience of our current students, simultaneously taking them on as partners in creating, maintaining, and communicating a culture where they learn best.
