Kehillah Latin Teams Win 2nd Place Overall at CAJCL
Kol HaKavod to the Kehillah Latin teams for winning 2nd place overall at the 2016 CAJCL State Convention!! Just after school trips, Kehillah Latin teams competed in the CAJCL (California Junior Classical League) State Convention at Woodbridge High School in Irvine.
Over 1,000 middle and high school Latin students from all over the state were in attendance. We had 10 members of our Latin Club present: Abigail Amit, Ben Darnell, Jacob Fernandez, Aaron Galper, Avi Kaplan-Lipkin, Tova Korman, Jonathan Nozik, Sarena Straughter, Mark Treitel, and Paul Treitel. All participated in convention events and took academic tests covering subjects like reading comprehension, ancient history, and geography.
All three of our Certamen teams (Latin I: Aaron, Sarena, and Paul; Latin II: Ben, Jacob, and Avi; and Advanced: Abigail, Jonathan, and Mark) qualified for the semi-final round at State Convention (meaning that each team was among the top 9 teams in the state at their level).
One of our Certamen teams (Advanced: Abigail, Jonathan, and Mark) made it through the semi-final round to finals, where they scored second place overall in the state. Kehillah also received the title of second place overall for a "small high school" in the state of California (a judgment based on overall number of individual awards given to the students; this is pretty impressive considering how few kids we bring to these events compared with other "small" schools, like Harker).
