Avelyn Welczer has been an engaged, avid leader, and volunteer in the Jewish community in the Bay Area. While working at Stanford University, she started a conversational Hebrew class at Stanford Hillel for graduate students, leading the (Bureau of Jewish Education in San Francisco (BJESF) to assign a permanent staff for that position. Avelyn was also a board member of the Israel Student Organization at Stanford (ISO). Her responsibilities included public relations for the organization, as well as working to bring Israeli and Jewish American students together, in a variety of activities on campus.
Avelyn has served as the chairperson or co-chair for several successful fund raising galas for the Palo Alto JCC and The Mid-Peninsula Jewish Day School (now the Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School). In addition she developed and directed, on a voluntary basis, the Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School Chugim (after school enrichment program), focusing not only on the enrichment of the academic curriculum, but also as means to generate additional funds for the school, while also offering scholarships to the students who needed it. This program became a permanent feature of Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School.
At Kehillah Jewish High School, Avelyn saw the need for building the school community. She volunteered to reinstate the Kehillah Parent Association (KPA). Under her leadership several activities and resources have been created including the weekly KPA News Bulletin, the KPA Parent/Student Directory, the KPA Parent Business Directory, the Mitzvah Corps, the KPA Speaker Series, the KPA School Dance, the KPA School Parent Social, and more.At the present, in her professional career, she is the Chief Medical Officer for YaLi Pharmaceutical, a company that she co-founded with her husband in Israel.
