Architecture Club

WELCOME TO THE ARCHITECTURE CLUB PAGE!

The architecture club drew inspiration from
Classical architectural styles from ancient Greece.

The members came together to construct a classical revival-esque tower using paper.

How to stabilize tall buildings, and designing your dorm room.

The architecture club is in full swing. Last week, students built a two-mass damper made out of marshmallows and dry-pasta sticks. Isabella Tang and Jaemi Yoon, the two club leaders, explained how a mass-damper is used in the Taipei-101 tower to help deal with movement due to Typhoon winds. This very same mechanism is used to combat earthquakes induced shaking in tall buildings in San Francisco. Students then set out to build a two mass damper, and it was tested against a simulated, table top, shake. Some structures survived, and all the marshmallows were consumed.

This week, students discussed interior design, and created their own (college?) dorm room.

What will they do next week? Come find out. We meet every Thursday at lunch, Dr. Baharav’s room (210). All are welcome!
